From the coffee we drink to the phones we use, everything is interconnected. Africa is the main source of raw materials, which are sold for a low price, meanwhile these [resources] create multibillion Western industries.

Humans of the Hub
The Hague Humanity Hub is at the heart of a thriving community dedicated to strengthening peace and justice. That is what you read on our website, in our newsletter and on our socials. But who are the individuals behind the organisations? Behind the initiatives, the research, and the actions striving for a more just and peaceful world?
We are excited to relaunch Humans of the Hub, an interview series with community’s members!
Humans of the Hub takes you beyond the logos and formal titles to introduce you to the passionate people who form this unique community. It’s not just about the programs, projects, or institutions —it’s about the humans who dedicate themselves to the cause of peace and justice. Meet the humans who make this community.
Meet Max Koffi from Equal Trade Alliance.
Why are you a member of the Hub?
I am a member of the Hub because its mission and vision align closely with my own. The Hub brings together organizations committed to peace and justice work, which is at the core of what we do at Equal Trade Alliance. Our work focuses on advocating for a new economic model that respects Africa’s raw materials, in which collective action is key.
Also, The Hub’s location in The Hague is strategic for us, We engage in advocacy directed at the Dutch government and political parties, whom are key decisionmakers in the changes we aim to bring about.
What do you like most about your organization?
From the coffee we drink to the phones we use, everything is interconnected. Africa is the main source of raw materials in Western industries which are sold for a very low price, meanwhile those [resources] create multibillion industries outside of Africa.
What I appreciate most about my organization is our goal to shift from a development aid industry to a welfare creation industry. We address the root causes of challenges that other NGOs and civil society organizations often try to solve without getting to the core of the problem.
In addition, our approach is different because we focus on creating systemic change by promoting equal trade relations. We believe in the power of collective action. Systemic inequality has persisted for centuries and can only be changed when people come together.
